Orchestrating Sustainablity
The Smith Center is expected to be the nation's first performing arts center of its size and scope to be LEED® certified. Environmental responsibility is important to The Smith Center. Since the project's inception, creating a highly efficient and sustainable campus that meets the standards of the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program, administered by the United States Building Council, has guided the design and construction process.
Careful consideration has been given to every detail of the Center, from the selection of construction materials to insulation values, landscape, and other key elements. The Smith Center's sustainable features will include natural lighting, energy efficient windows, low-emitting materials, and recycling during construction.
