Festivals and music to enliven downtown this summer

The sounds of summer will be heard throughout downtown during the season’s upcoming music festivals. On Saturday, June 12, Reggae in The Desert will take place at the Clark County Amphitheater. Las Vegas’ largest Reggae festival, presented by Frederic Apcar Productions, features legendary music performances, food, beer gardens and vendors selling  Caribbean island-style arts and crafts. The event runs from 2 to 10 pm and is open to all ages. For more information, visit www.reggaeinthedesert.com.

The Downtown Cultural Series presents the Backward Glance Band on Friday, June 18 in the jury assembly room of the Lloyd D. George Federal Courthouse. This free concert includes bluegrass, old-time country, folk and gospel music and starts at noon. For more information, visit www.artslasvegas.org.

On June 19, the 10th annual Las Vegas Juneteenth Festival is an inspiring celebration of the diverse African traditions that enrich American culture. The event commemorates June 19, 1865, when Union General Gordon Granger rode into Galveston, Texas, and delivered a message that sparked an impromptu celebration: the last American slaves were now free. Today, the two-day Juneteenth event attracts more than 5,000 attendees who enjoy delicious  food, empowerment seminars, and a music festival that includes bluegrass, salsa, contemporary jazz, hip hop, gospel and more. General admission is $35.00, and a portion of the proceeds benefits Rainbow Dreams Educational Foundation. For more information, visit www.June19LV.com.
