What's Up Downtown
For those who work and live downtown, a place to have a great locally roasted cup of coffee, a quick muffin, a delicious salad or sandwich or just listen to music, has finally arrived. According to Jennifer Cornthwaite, co-owner, The Beat is an authentic coffeehouse similar to those that populate urban neighborhoods in major metropolitan cities. Cornthwaite owns The Beat along with her husband, Michael, owner and proprietor of the Downtown Cocktail Room, just down the street.
“This is a place for local business people to drop by in the morning for a great cup of locally roasted coffee, a friendly place for a quick meeting or lunch and a place with a cool-vibe to bring your laptop and get a few things done at the end of the day,” said Cornthwaite. “We have free Wi-Fi and offer live music on the weekends to ensure that The Beat is both convenient and fun. It’s a great place for book club meetings and poetry readings, and we have so much more planned.”
Chef Andy Knudson offers healthy and fast breakfast and lunch options, including fresh baked muffins, Greek yogurt with berries and organic granola, roast chicken salad sandwich with cucumber and mint and the classic Croque Monsieur (ham and cheese). The Beat also offers a wide array of healthy salads and sides.
The Beat is located on the corner of 6th and Fremont Street and is connected to the Emergency Arts building, a creative collective arts location. Emergency Arts is also run by the Cornthwaites and currently hosts the Burlesque Hall of Fame. The Cornthwaites plan to continue hosting local artists in multiple art boutiques throughout the building.
Guests can park on the street or at the valet at the El Cortez. Free parking is available at the El Cortez parking garage. For those just dropping by to pick up a cup of coffee or a sandwich to go, there is parking in the front on Fremont Street in the 10-minute loading zone. The Beat is open 7am to 7pm Mon-Thurs, 7am to 10pm on Friday and 9am to 10pm on Saturday. Sunday Brunch is served from 9am to 3pm. For more information visit The Beat on either Twitter or Facebook.
