Dancing through Time at the Ruvo Center
Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health views caregiver services as an integral part of its mission. Complementing excellent medical care, the focus on caregivers affirms that neurocognitive diseases impact not just the patient but everyone involved in offering care and support. The goal is to provide supportive services and programs to caregivers and family members, maximizing their knowledge, skills and capacity to provide care.
Care extends beyond caregivers to the community. In addition to art programming covered in the September issue of Noteworthy, the Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health announces a dance session that runs throughout October. Dancing Through Time is a social and ballroom dance class specially created to accommodate caregivers together with their loved ones. The course offers interesting historical information about ballroom dancing, followed by the opportunity to experience dance styles, movement and music. Participants will learn techniques to increase coordination, balance, flexibility and rhythm. Many of these techniques can be performed sitting in a chair, and the course has been designed to accommodate individuals of all physical abilities. In addition to an enjoyable experience, anticipated benefits include increased range of motion, stamina and sense of well being.
