WHAT’S UP DOWNTOWN
Mundo brings upscale dining to the downtown scene with a “Latin chic” menu that fuses traditional Mexican with modern flavors. Located in the Las Vegas Design Center at the World Market Center, across from Symphony Park and walking distance to the Las Vegas Premium Outlets, the restaurant’s stylish décor complements the cuisine, influenced by both old world Mexico and the glamour of Las Vegas.
Mundo is a creative, collaborative effort between entrepreneurs George Harris, Irma Aguirre, Mingo Collaso and Executive Chef Robert Solano. The restaurant was originally located in Summerlin under the name La Madonna, which earned recognition in the Las Vegas Review-Journal Best of Las Vegas award for Avant-Garde Cuisine in 2009 and Top 10 Best Restaurants in Las Vegas in 2008. Mundo has already won OpenTable's Diners' Choice for Lunch 2010 and AOL City's Best - Best Mexican Food 2010.
The team moved the restaurant downtown in January 2010 and changed the name to Mundo, a Spanish word meaning “world.” General Manager Mingo Collaso says, “We knew that downtown was growing, and we wanted to be a part of it. We’re thrilled to have celebrated Mundo’s one-year anniversary last month and to be amid so many exciting developments in the surrounding area.”
Mundo will offer a “Lovers’ Special” in addition to the regular menu for dinner on Saturday, February 12 and Valentine’s Day: Monday, February 14. Executive Chef Robert Solano’s mouthwatering prix fixe menu includes a Rose Petal Salad to start, an entrée of Ten-Chile Crusted Filet Mignon and Lobster al Mojo de Ajo, Oaxaca Chocolate Cake for dessert and a bottle of wine per couple. The cost is $75 per person, not including taxes or gratuities. Reservations are strongly recommended.
Mundo is open 11am to 10pm, Tuesday through Saturday, with happy hour from 3pm to 7pm. For information and reservations, call (702) 270-4400.
