VEGAS VALLEY BOOK FESTIVAL
Thursday, Nov. 3 – Sunday, Nov. 6

Historic Fifth Street School, 401 S. Fourth St., and various locations

This year, Las Vegas’ largest literary event celebrates its tenth anniversary as a local “celebration of imagination,” encompassing the written, spoken, and illustrated word. The four-day community festival was founded to bring together those who write books and those who love to read them. More than 10,000 people are expected to attend this year’s programs and events, including panel discussions, book signings, and workshops. In addition, the festival hosts the Vegas Valley Children’s Book Festival, Vegas Valley Comic Book Festival, Feasting on Words: Literature and Food Fair, a Young Adult literature program, and collaboration with the Las Vegas Jewish Book Festival. BIKE MS: VEGAS CHALLENGE
Saturday, Nov. 12 – Sunday, Nov. 13

The Southern California & Nevada Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society presents Bike MS: Vegas Challenge to raise funds for MS research and help hundreds of thousands of people currently living with the disease. The two-day ride starts and finishes each day in downtown Las Vegas at the Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health. Ride distances vary from 30 to 160 miles. DOWNTOWN CULTURAL SERIES

The Downtown Cultural Series presents the Bishr Hijazi Arab Ensemble, a music and dance performance bringing the exotic sounds and sights of the Middle East to downtown Las Vegas. WORLD AIDS DAY OPEN HOUSE

ActionRED, a Las Vegas organization dedicated to supporting the HIV-positive community, partners with the Southern Nevada Health District (SNHD) to host an open house for ActionRED on World AIDS Day. The AIDS Memorial Quilt will be on display as well as an art show featuring work by artists living with and affected by HIV/AIDS. The community is invited to view the exhibit throughout the month of December and place bids on favorite pieces, with proceeds benefitting ActionRED. The open house is one part of a community-wide World AIDS Day event taking place at various times and locations throughout the valley. For more information, visit http://www.cchd.org.
